Victim Advocacy Unit
Under the supervision of CSPD personnel and the Victim Advocacy Unit (VAU), volunteer Victim Advocates provide crime victims with immediate crisis intervention, follow-up support, and information on victim rights and community resources in accordance with the Colorado Victim Rights Act.
The next VAU Training Academy is scheduled for September 13th – October 11th, 2025. Class sessions will be from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with an hour for lunch.
Applications received after August 1st, 2025 will be considered for the following academy.
Academies includes approximately 40 hours of training, with over 20 hours of additional on-the-job training following the academy. Participants will be trained in victim advocacy skills including crisis intervention, community resources, and VAU operations. To become a Victim Advocate volunteer, applicants must be able to attend and successfully complete a VAU academy.
The CSPD will accept applications all year for VAU training academies that typically take place in the spring and fall. Volunteers may be eligible to participate in certain VAU volunteer duties prior to completing an academy.
